(Sorta made me want to watch the whole episode again, which is a good sign for a book).A solid four stars and most Star Trek novels, even the better ones don't usually approach four stars. But if it went perfectly then there'd be no TV show or books.It was one of the most relevant storylines that the Star Trek shows ever made and the book lives up to that as well.It's a well written book, there are only a few mistakes here and there in regards to characterization, but for the most part it is a very good novelization of a great episode. Its first mission is to go to the Gamma Quadrant and put the scare a little bit into the Dominion and also test out the cloak that it uses (that the Romulans have 'loaned' to Starfleet).Of course, the mission doesn't go how it should. It's the start of the explanation of the Dominion, the Founders and Odo amongst other things.The story is that Sisko has convinced Starfleet to give him a new ship, a new warship class, The Defiants. I’m very flattered and glad I can continue inspiring new Star Trek adventures.This novel is based on the two part episode of the same name. The writers very honorably showcased the line about “This new Dreadnought-class starship,” spoken by the power-mad admiral who built a huge war vessel and was determined to start a war with the Klingons because he believed it was inevitable, and that’s the plot of my book. Imagine my surprise when I watched the sequel to ‘Star Trek,’ which is ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness.’ I was again surprised when the plot of my first Trek book, Dreadnought!, was used as the core plot for the new movie. Having James Kirk be a juvenile delinquent was also my development, and was inspired by a tall ship experience I had on a ship full of adjudicated teenagers, in a program then called Vision Quest. Published by Pocket Books, it was first released in May 1986. Dreadnought is a Pocket TOS novel 29 in the numbered series, and the first book in the retroactively designated Fortunes of War duology written by Diane Carey.
